The development team said in the Weird Autumn Twitter reveal thread that it can’t yet confirm what that additional console will be, but it strongly hinted that it will be the Nintendo Switch. Night in the Woods: Weird Autumn will launch on December 13th for PC, Mac, Linux, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and another as-yet-revealed console. The Night in the Woods development team hasn’t yet detailed exactly how much new content there will be, but it did confirm that those who already own Night in the Woods will receive the Weird Autumn content via a free update, which means they won’t have to buy the game a second time. Longest Night and Lost Constellation will be available at launch for PC and Xbox One and will come to PlayStation 4 sometime in January of 2018. Weird Autumn will also come bundled with Night in the Woods’ two supplemental games Longest Night and Lost Constellation, providing the first opportunity for console players to experience them (the two mini-episodes were previously only available on PC). Writing for Eurogamer, Edwin Evans-Thirlwell described it as "whimsical without being frivolous and tender without being maudlin", before slapping a Recommended badge atop its bonnet in his review. The development team behind the quirky and charming narrative adventure title Night in the Woods has announced that the game will soon be getting a definitive "Director’s Cut" re-release called Night in the Woods: Weird Autumn.Īccording to developers Scott Benson, Bethany Hockenberry and Alec Holowka, Night in the Woods: Weird Autumn will act as a definitive edition of sorts, containing all the content from the original game plus some new additions such as additional crimes (and associated mini-games) to solve. Night in the Woods was much loved around these parts on release. However, I guess Vita might be a possible outlier, with the Atari Jaguar and 3DO considerably further down the list. As such, it's probably safe to surmise that Switch is the mysterious device being alluded to here. Given that the Xbox One and PS4 versions are already a known quantity, we can immediately cross them off the list of potential other consoles. Among Infinite Fall's deluge of Weird Autumn Edition announcement tweets today was one reading, "Stay tuned for news on another console, which I am unable to mention for reasons, but you know what console I'm talking about." There's one last potentially exciting bit of Night in the Wood news. PS4 players, meanwhile, will get them a smidgeon later, in January 2018. As a bonus, Xbox One and PC players will receive Longest Night and Lost Constellation, the two previously released supplemental games, on launch day. Weird Autumn will be made available as a free update for existing PC and PS4 players on release day.ĭecember 13th also marks Night in the Woods' Xbox One debut, where it will arrive in its new Weird Autumn guise. The announcement trailer is marginally more illuminating, revealing that it will feature "new weird, new crimes, and old tales". Known as the Weird Autumn Edition, the new version features (in the words of its creators) "a whole bunch of new content". Developer Infinite Fall's celebrated narrative adventure Night in the Woods - a game of cute animals and crippling existential dread - is getting a "director's cut" on December 13th.
